The hopes of the people of Kalyan Karnataka region have dashed with the BJP-led central government on Tuesday to set up a long-awaited railway division headquarters in Kalaburagi.

Responding to a question raised in Parliament by Kalaburagi MP Umesh Jadhav, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that a detailed project report (DPR) for the establishment of the division at Kalaburagi, which under various aspects was tested in the Ministry of Railways Was / requirements.

Mr. Goyal said that the establishment of the new division affects railway operations and efficiency. This also requires additional resources. A committee consisting of senior railway officials was formed to review and review the feasibility of building three new divisions, including Kalaburagi, announced in 2014. After examining all the issues related to operational, financial, administrative and other aspects of the functioning of the railway, the committee concluded that the creation of new divisions, including the one at Kalaburagi, could be abandoned for the present.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Railways (Efficiency and Research), Umesh Baloda, said in a letter that the recommendations of the committee have been examined. In view of the situation arising out of the ongoing epidemic of railways and the consequent financial situation, the committee’s recommendation to abandon the proposal to construct the Kalaburagi Railway Division for the present has been accepted by the Ministry of Railways.

Kalyan Karnataka Grahakara Vedike President Sunil Kulkarni accused the Center of adopting steps towards Kalyan Karnataka region. He condemned the decision of the central government to establish a railway divisional headquarters at Calaburagi and a node for the construction of a railway division at Raigad in Maharashtra.
