Jim Boeheim continues to beef up with the Syracuse reporter making fun of his height

Syracuse coach Jim Boehm criticized a reporter during the press conference after his game on Wednesday night.

Boehm, coming in with a 64-54 win over Clemson, was asked a harmless question by Athletic’s Matthew Gutierrez about the defensive development of players Quincy Guerrier and Alan Griffin. Boehm began with a specific response, and then engrossed in humiliation.

Here is the exchange:

Gutierrez: “Hey Jim, just wanted to ask you on Quincy and Allen, if you could expand a bit on their defensive development. Especially in the final few games, and what Quincy and Allen have been able to do as defensive guys on the wing . Looks like they’re balancing for the shooters …. “

Boehm: “I think they’re getting better, they still make some mistakes and that’s normal. But I think they’re getting better, I think our guards are moving around really well. Our The guards did an incredible job tonight. They were the key. ” Found for shooters. They were right for the shooters from the beginning, not letting them get comfortable. … I think our whole team has gotten better, but it’s not as good as we need all year. But I think we got better as a team. I think it’s hard to go 9-7 in this league. This is a tough league. It is very difficult. I think these people have done a great job this year. “

After a brief pause, and a moment where the moderator was about to move on to the next question, Boehm mocked Gutierrez.

“But if I played Jessie (Edwards) and Qadri (Richmond) we would probably be 22-2 now,” Boehm said. “I just didn’t notice that I couldn’t figure it out by myself after 45 years. I needed a reporter to know who never played basketball and was 5-foot-2.”

Gutierrez did not offer a response other than merely reporting what happened.

While the conversation seemed random on the surface, there is little history before Wednesday night’s exchange.

Boeheim received another sharp response from Gutierrez earlier this month when the reporter asked about Edwards after a game against North Carolina.

Here is that exchange:

Gutierrez: “Hey Jim, just wanted to ask about Jessie Edwards against perhaps the best frontcourt in the ACC. It was really a night for him. Was it something you felt he was capable of earlier in the year or he had to It was required … “

Boehm: “Yes, I didn’t play him, but I felt that he was ready then. I just purposefully put him out. What kind of question is that? … He’s still not ready. He’s not ready, but he’s Hanged in there. He batted. He did some good things, but he came out strong, and he would have played earlier in the year if he was ready in the first year. “

Gutierrez also tweeted this during the game, which Bohem appears to have brought on Wednesday night.

Gutierrez then said that a question was discussed between him and the coach.

Moral of the story: Jim Boehm does not like his coaching decisions to be second-guessed by reporters. Especially if they are less than 6 feet tall.
