30-year-old Narayan of Tirumala handed over the gold jewelery left in a bag in his vehicle to the owner
A Tirupati-based jeep driver was rewarded by police personnel for his honesty as he returned a bag containing gold ornaments, as belonged to his owner.
The driver, Narayan (30), set fire to a batch of pilgrims from Tirupati at the railway station in Tirupati in the early hours of Monday. After a few hours, they found that the passengers had left a bag in their vehicle. The bag contained around 80 grams of gold ornaments, which was worth 4.5 lakh grams in addition to some cash and documents.
In an example of honesty, the driver went directly to the traffic prepaid taxi counter at the railway station and handed over the bag to the constables with all the materials.
In return, the pair was informed to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mallikarjun and Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar. Command control point personnel at Tirumala and Tirupati were instructed to identify the pilgrims traveling in Narayan’s jeep.
Meanwhile, B. of Tamil Nadu. Pandeshwari realized that she had lost her handbag, returned to Tirumala from the railway station and lodged a complaint with the Forest Town Police. Within minutes, the police identified the woman and she was handed the bag.
SP (Tirupati Urban District) Chau. Venkat Apala Naidu offered a cash reward to the jeep driver, besides giving him a pat for his honesty. The SP also announced the award to those traffic personnel who had successfully restored the lost property to its owner.
