‘It was a special day’ – USWNT Star Press on Old Trafford on Man to play at UDD

Manchester United forward Kristen Press says playing for the first time at Old Trafford was a “really special day” and believes that highlights the progress of the women’s game in England.

USWNT was one of the international scorers as the Red Devils defeated West Ham 2–0 on Saturday in the first women’s Super League match played at the stadium, although the coronovirus ban meant behind closed doors.

Laurie was on target for James Casey Stoinis, with West Ham defender Laura Veterlin sent in late.

What did the press say?

Speaking for Manchester United Website, The World Cup winner added: “I had such a feeling to walk into the stadium today, it was really, really special and I think, especially for the players who have been here for a long time, it was a special day .

“It was really exciting and shows for all the girls where women’s sports are going on and the facilities and resources that we expect to get into women’s sports, because when you invest in it you get back .

“We are really missing the fans today, but we know they are with us. We have missed them every season and we have really felt that way all the days today.”

The bigger picture

The win puts Manchester United three points ahead of third-placed Arsenal in the WSL, though they are seven points behind second-placed Manchester City.

The press says that the rest of their four games of the season are “four cup finals” as they attempt to reel in City and secure a top-two finish that will make it to the Champions League next season.

“Ultimately there is precedent in three points and we have to put pressure on the top two with every single performance and every single point,” he said.

“It is a difficult task, especially in this season when the pressure continues and also really high for our opponents.

He said, “It was about pushing the ball forward and being brave, having a little faith in myself after a tough stretch and remembering what the team is like.

“Casey keeps telling us, four cup finals, so we are taking it game-by-game at a time. We will try and hope that will work.
