ISSF World Cup: Two more Indian shooters test positive for COVID-19, report

Two more Indian shooters have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the number of athletes who contracted the highly contagious virus to six at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in New Delhi. As per the guidelines, the shooters have been sent in isolation. These two, whose test reports came late on Saturday night, in addition to the two Indian athletes who returned positive for the virus at the start of the tournament’s second competition day. A source from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said, “Two more Indian shooters have tested positive for the virus and it was revealed after their reports came in the night.”

Three shooters, including two from the Indian Pistol Men’s team, tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday morning.

The shooters were self-segregated at their team hotel before being transferred to a hospital. Those who shared the room with the three shooters, as well as their other comrades, have also been separated after undergoing COVID tests.

A federation source said that the shooters have been sent into isolation as per protocol. The tests are being done on a daily basis and that is why their results have been revealed.

Another NRAI source said, “Everything is being done as per the protocol set by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and in consultation with its technical director.”

On Friday, Dr. Since the arrival of the teams for the tournament started at the Karni Singh Shooting Range, all the six shooters have suffered from the dreaded virus.

Countries have been allowed to field their MQS (minimum qualification score) shooters, who are out of the main teams due to contracting the virus.

In the first such case here on Thursday, a top international shooter returned positive for COVID-19, after which he was sent to the hospital.

A total of 294 shooters from 53 countries are participating in the tournament including Korea, Singapore, USA, United Kingdom, Iran, Ukraine, France, Hungary, Italy, Thailand and Turkey.

As per ISSF guidelines, no spectators are allowed inside the range for the tournament that provides ranking points assistance in the Tokyo Olympic qualifications.
