Sergio Aguero is irreplaceable “in the hearts of souls, in the hearts of our fans,” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said of the club’s record goalscorer who is to leave at the end of the season. Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011, three years after the club was taken over by the owners of Abu Dhabi and would leave after 10 trophy-filled years, scoring 257 goals in 384 games so far. Guardiola said the 32-year-old Aguero’s goal could one day be surpassed, but what he meant to the club was unique. “Sergio is irreplaceable,” Guardiola said. “I can say in terms of numbers that it is interchangeable, it is not easy when you look at more than 360 games played and more than 250 goals, the amount of titles (he won).
“So it is legend, this club has, through the years, been the best striker for this century, but irreplaceable in spirits, in the hearts, in the minds of our fans, for our people, of the players playing with them. And all the managers Who used to work with him. “
Guardiola said he took over as manager in 2016 when legends like Aguero were present at the club.
“We were very lucky to have people who came after him – for example as a manager.”
“We took over the club and he was one of the guys like Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Komon, David Silva, many players helped take this club a step further and of course he was one of them.”
Guardiola said that Argentina’s contribution in helping Citi become a domestic football superpower decades after the city’s rival Manchester United remained in the shadows.
Aguero’s most memorable moment for City fans will be a goal scored in the final game of the 2011/12 season.
Manchester United were just seconds away from winning another Premier League title, prolonging the anguish of their neighbors, who had not been crowned English champions since 1968.
But Aguero had other ideas, getting the ball from Mario Balotelli and finishing home to send a 3–2 win against QPR and sending Etihad to the Raptors.
“When he came here the club was at a level, and he helped keep the club at a high level,” Guardiola said.
“Of course fans will always be grateful.”
This season, however, has been a struggle for Aguero.
He underwent knee surgery in the close season. A hamstring problem complicated his return and he then had to sit out for a month after a coronovirus infection.

However, with City bidding for a historic quadruple trophy sweep – Aguero is sure to share in the fifth league title, but Guardiola says Argentina have time to sign in style.
“I think he still has interesting goals to score this season,” Guardiola said.
