Ravichandran Ashwin hit the nets in Delhi’s capital (DC) ahead of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday. DC posted a video on social media in which Ashwin is seen twisting his hand in the nets. Ashwin was retained from the Punjab Kings in DC before the 2020 season and took 13 wickets in 15 matches of the previous season. “Roses are red, @ ashwinravi99 is back in DC Blue,” DC wrote in his social media post. “His smile will make you smile too.”

Ashwin comes into a great season with the Indian cricket team in the IPL where he performed brilliantly with both bat and ball. In the four-match Test series against England, Ashwin scored 189 runs with a century and took 32 wickets – the highest in the series by any bowler.

Ashwin was one of India’s star performers in the away Test series in Australia which preceded the England series.

The 34-year-old took 12 wickets in three Tests and formed a match-saving partnership with Hanuma Vihari in the second innings of the third Test in Sydney to save the match for India.

Even in the IPL, Ashwin has been one of the leading wicket takers. He is currently ranked sixth on the all-time wicket-taker list with 138 wickets in 154 matches.

He led the Punjab Kings in 2018 and 2019 and last played for the Rising Pune Supergiant and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

IPL 2021 is scheduled to begin on 9 April with defending champions Mumbai Indians along with Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai.
