IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting to join the squad for the new season

Delhi Capital head coach Ricky Ponting is on track to join his squad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which will start from 9 April. Taking to Twitter on Sunday, Ponting wrote: “Staying safe,” on my way to connecting with @delhicaplys and getting things started for # IPL2021. can not wait. “Delhi Capital will start the IPL 2021 campaign against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

On Sunday, the Delhi-based franchise announced the appointment of former India India wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra as the team’s assistant coach. On his appointment, in a statement, Ratra said: “I am honored to join the Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach. It is a very exciting team to work with talent. The 39-year-old was recently the coach of the Assam State team in the Syed Mushtaq AliT20 tournament and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. She has also coached the Punjab state team in the past and worked as a fielding and wicketkeeping coach with the Indian women’s team at the camp. This will be his first brush with the IPL franchise.

Ratra made history in 2002 when he was the youngest wicketkeeper (aged 20) to score a Test century and the second Indian wicketkeeper to score a century abroad.

Currently employed by ONGC as Manager (Corporate Communications), Ratra played six Tests and 12 ODIs for India. He joins the Delhi Capitals coaching staff of Ponting, Mohammad Kaif, Praveen Amre and James Hopes.

Delhi Capital had reached the final of IPL 2020, but lost to Mumbai Indians in the summit clash.
