Steve Smith, a new addition to the IPL franchise Delhi capitals, arrived in Mumbai before IPL 2021. The franchise posted a picture of the former Australian captain on its social media handle from the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai. Smith lost to the Delhi Capitals for 2.2 INR after being released after IPL 2020 from Rajasthan Royals, the 2008 winner. Smith will join a franchise that lost its first trophy by finishing runners-up in the last season of the IPL. Final winner for Mumbai Indians.

The Australian star will play under the leadership of DC’s new captain, Rishabh Pant, after regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury he sustained in the India vs England ODI series.
Although Smith finished last season with 311 runs in 14 matches at an average of 25.91 and a strike-rate of 131.22, RR was ranked at the bottom of the points table.
His 14 matches have included eight defeats and six wins, scoring only 12 points in the entire league campaign.
