The 27-member Indian senior men’s national team will leave for Dubai on Monday for the preparatory camp ahead of India’s upcoming international friendly team against Oman and UAE. While the match against Oman is scheduled for 25 March, the match against UAE is slated for 29 March. Both matches will be in Dubai. The Blue Tigers last played internationally at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in November 2019.
However, talisman-striker Sunil Chhetri will not be able to travel after testing positive for Kovid-19. Chhetri, the highest Indian goalscorer internationally with 72 goals, is currently recovering and is in self-isolation.
Head coach Igor Stimack said: “It is such a relief that we are all gathering together and gearing up for international action. The squad has a lot of newcomers and it is a time of hard work for all of them – In fact, to everyone in the camp. We need to test how they respond and how bright our future is with them. “
The coach also mentioned that Brandon Fernandes, Rahul Bhake, Sahal Abdul Samad and Ashish Rai were not available for selection as they are currently on rehab.
