Three MoUs between India and Bangladesh are likely to be signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka next week to commemorate the golden jubilee of India’s independence and the birth centenary of its founder ‘Bangabandhu’ Sahib Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister Modi and the Heads of State of Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives will join the distinguished foreign guests to attend the ceremony under different schedules.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Moman said that a memorandum of understanding is likely to be signed between some institutions of the two countries in the area of ​​disaster management and cooperation.

“We are still working on every MoU. We will get the final scenario about the MoU within a day or two,” he said.

According to the schedule, all foreign leaders will visit the Bangabandhu Museum in Dhanmondi 32 to pay tribute to the founding fathers of Bangladesh, watch the special military parade and pay tribute to the freedom martyrs at Dhanmondi 32.

Prime Minister Modi is also set to visit the Bangabandhu temple, home to the village of Bangabandhu in Tungipara and two Hindu temples outside Dhaka – one in Gopalganj and the other in south-west Satkhira.

The temples are especially the places of worship of the Hindu Matua community. A large number of people of Matua community live in West Bengal.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih will be the first top foreign dignitary to arrive here on a three-day visit on 17 March. He will be followed by Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who will be here on a two-day visit on 19 March.

Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari will be in Dhaka on a two-day visit from 22 March, while Bhutan chief Lotte Tshering will visit Dhaka from 24 to 25 March. Prime Minister Modi will arrive here on 26 March and will return home the next day.

Mr. Moman said Chinese President Xi Jinping, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and some high-level leaders from various countries and international organizations would send video messages on the occasion.
