India captain Virat Kohli achieved the feat of 10,000 ODI runs at number three during the second match against England in Pune at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Friday. Kohli is only the second batsman after former Australia captain Ricky Ponting to cross the 10,000-run mark in that position. Ponting made the list of 3rd-ranked runs in ODIs, scoring 12,662 runs from 330 innings. The Indian captain, playing his 190th innings, crossed the 10,000 mark.

The third batsman in this list is former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 9,747 runs in 238 innings, followed by South Africa’s Jack Kallis (7,774).

Returning to the match, a brilliant partnership of Kohli and KL Rahul revived India’s innings after thwarting big scores from openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. After completing 26 overs, India’s score was reduced to 121/2, with Kohli and Rahul playing for 47 and 42 respectively.

India lead the three-match ODI series against England after winning the first game by 66 runs. A win in this game would seal the series for the host team, which means that it is a win game for the spectators if they want to keep their hopes alive.
