Virat Kohli on Tuesday equaled Kane Williamson’s record of the most fifties as T20I captain. Kohli and Williamson both have 11 fifties as captains in T20I cricket and Kohli scored his 11th against England in the third T20I in Ahmedabad. The Indian captain, playing an innings of 77 off just 46 balls, helped India score 156 for 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Kohli became the first player to score 3000 T20I runs in men’s cricket on Sunday. Kohli has an average of 52.17 in the T20Is with a strike rate of 138.96.
Kohli’s innings helped to revive India, as he made himself 24 in 3 in the powerplay and then 86 for 5 in the 15th over.
Kohli took a special liking to Mark Wood in the 18th over of the innings, scoring 6, 6, 4 and then hitting two more fours in the final two overs.
However, he got little support as Rishabh Pant (25) and Hardik Pandya (17) at the other end, no other batsman could score the substance.
It was Kohli’s second half-century on the trophy in T20I, as he scored 73 off 49 balls in the second game and contributed to India’s seven-wicket victory.
Next on the list of captains with the most T20I fifties is Aaron Finch of Australia and Eoin Morgan of England, who have scored nine fifties.
