Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the remainder of the three-match ODI series against England after he dislocated his shoulder while fielding in the first ODI. Iyer suffered an injury in the eighth over of England’s innings in Pune on Tuesday as he attempted to field the ball. He was seen groaning painfully while lying on his back on the ground and had to be taken out of the park immediately. He did not take any further part in the match. Later, the BCCI said in an update that Iyer had “weakened” his left shoulder. The BCCI tweeted on Tuesday, “They have been taken for further scans and no further participation will be taken in the game.”
Iyer’s injury also means that he will miss the first few weeks of the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting on 9 April.
The right-handed batsman led the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and helped the team to a place in the final of the IPL 2020, where they were runners-up.
Iyer was in good form with the bat in the limited overs leg of the 2021 tour of England.
Overall, Iyer has played 22 ODIs and 29 T20s for India since his white ball debut in 2017.
