Keeping a cautious stand with the bat during the first 40 overs may cost India a one-day World Cup in two years time. India has always followed the blueprint to accelerate in the last 10 overs. It has worked on most occasions, but of late, England have shown with the world title that attacking the front of the batting track is the way forward. In the first two ODIs, India adopted a similar approach, as they were able to score 112 and 126 in the 10th over respectively in the final 10 overs after a slow start.
Vaughan feels that Virat Kohli and his men have the ability to score 375 runs on flat wickets and should look aggressive from the start.
“Today should be a lesson for India … Playing safely for 40 overs with the bat, they may have to spend 2 years at home in the World Cup. They have a score of 375 + on flat wickets. There is enough power and depth. England is a pioneer. With this attitude, “Vaughn wrote on his Twitter handle.
Although India managed to score 251 runs for England in 42.1 overs in the first ODI for a 66.1-run victory, in the second ODI, the visiting team set a target of 336 runs off 39 balls.
In the first ODI, Jason Roy and Johnny Bairstow chased England after a 135-run partnership for the opening wicket, as no other batsman could continue the stroke game.
Promoted
In the second ODI, England did not step off the paddle after losing to Roy as Bairstow and Ben Stokes defeated India by six wickets with six wickets each.
The three-match ODI series will be decided on Sunday when the two teams clash in the third game.
