England beat India by eight wickets in the first T20 International in Ahmedabad, with captain Virat Kohli revealing that the home team lacked execution, and more intent was needed. The spectators won at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Kohli was also dismissed for five balls during India’s innings. During the post-match press conference, Kohli said, “We did not have execution of some shots. We need to come back with more intent and clarity of plan.”
Kohli also felt that the wicket made it difficult for his team to play a few shots while batting. Criticizing his side’s batting performance, he quipped, “It was a down batting performance and England paid us. We tried a few things, but as a batting side you have to accept that we bat well. Did not. Shreyas batted well. We did not have enough runs on the board. “
Shreyas Iyer was the only Indian batsman to have contributed significantly and scored a half-century. He scored 67 off 48 balls. Despite his half-century, India could only aim for 125 runs, which England chased in 15.3 overs.
