A skill development training was conducted by the Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute (TRRI), Aduthurai, recently to attract the attention of farmers for the benefit of cashew cultivation.
Around 50 farmers from Thanjavur, Trisuhi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore and Pudukkottai districts participated in the training on ‘Recent Production and Conservation Techniques in Cashew’.
Inaugurating the three-day program organized by the institute in coordination with the Directorate of Cashew and Cocoa Development, Kochi, TRRI Director V. Ambhetagar emphasized the importance of cashew cultivation.
Dr. Ambhetagar also presented a brief note to the farmers on the available routes to increase their income through integration of various enterprises.
Officials from the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture and scientists from the Regional Research Center, Virudhachalam, highlighted the advanced varieties of cashew, crop and pest management techniques, schemes available to farmers and production of value-added products from cashew apples.
A publication on Recent Production and Preservation Techniques in Cashew a. Ramanathan, Professor and Unit Head (Plant Protection), was released by TRRI. Demonstrations on crop management and conservation technologies and various value-added products were also showcased.
