A total of 150 veterans who participated in the Indo-Pak war of 1971 were felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of the lit flame in Delhi on 16 December as part of the inauguration of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Commodore Ashok Rai, Commanding Officer of INS Agrani, Air Commodore Rajneesh Verma of the Air Force Administrative College (AFAC) and the Station Headquarters, Colonel Piyush S. Research (PSG IMSR) after a two-day visit to the Madras Regimental Center, Wellington.
Commending the sacrifices made by the armed forces personnel to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country, Commodore Rai said that when a nation goes to war, it is not just the armed forces that go to war. “This is the whole country that goes to war. Each and every citizen is directly or indirectly involved in the war, ”said Commodore Rai.
“In fact, a nation is considered a great nation, it requires more than just physical power. It has to develop those intangibles such as the national character. This can only happen with true education, ethics and value systems.
The veterans who participated in the war were Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Natarajan and Brigadier Mahadevan shared their experiences, while Corporation Commissioner P.K. Kumaravel Pandian talked about the importance of epic warfare.
Commodore Rai, Air Commodore Verma and Colonel Katal honored 150 war veterans from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Tirupur and parts of Kerala.

Chandrasekaran Naidu, Group Commander, NCC Group Coimbatore; Lieutenant Colonel Girish Parthan, Commanding Officer of 2nd Tamil Nadu Artillery Battery NCC and Coordinating Officer of Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Coimbatore; War veteran AVM Vijayakumar; RS Maruti, Director, Rotary G40; TMG Subbarao, Deputy Chief of PSGIMSR; Defense personnel; NCC officers and family members of war veterans were present.
The event also presented a symphony orchestra by Air Force and cultural programs by NCC cadets. The Rotary G40 gave gifts to all war veterans.
