Here’s what the 18-year-old told Jeff Bezos about Amazon on the space flight – morningtidings

The world’s richest man and founder of Amazon recently went to space and came back on a Blue Origin capsule. Bezos didn’t go alone and riding with him were his brother Mark Bezos, Wally Funk, an 82-year-old woman pilot who trained to go to space but never got a chance to fly. Also on the flight was 18-year-old Oliver Daemen whose father bought him a ticket for the ride.
Daemen in an interview with Reuters made an admission which came as a rather big surprise for Jeff Bezos. The 18-year-old told Bezos that he had never purchased anything from Amazon. Daemen said that Bezos was quite taken aback and “He was like, ‘Oh, wow, it’s a long time ago I heard someone say that.’”
Incidentally, soon after Bezos came back from the space flight he told reporters that it was the Amazon customers who had in a way paid for his dream to go to space. “I want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer because you guys paid for all of this,” he said in a press conference after the flight. “Seriously, for every Amazon customer out there and every Amazon employee, thank you from the bottom of my heart very much. It’s very appreciated.”
Daemen only got the seat on the flight after the winner of an online auction for the seat backed out. The winner had paid $28 million for the ticket to space. Daemen said that his family didn’t pay anywhere close to that amount but didn’t disclose how much it cost him to travel to space. “We didn’t pay even close to $28 million, but they chose me because I was the youngest and I was also a pilot and I knew quite a lot about it already,” he said.
