The Madras High Court on Thursday co-chaired the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (BCTNP). Mohana refused to consider a case filed by Krishnan. Demanded the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) for not insisting on power consumption charges. Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy said that the issue was not given any attention as the lawyers were certainly more privileged than many other sections of the society, which were severely affected due to COVID-19. Further, noting that the lawyers could spy on their grievances, if any, in person, the Bench held that the petitioner may not be allowed to state the cause of all lawyers in general.
In its affidavit, the litigant stated that the High Court administration had kept the law rooms closed for almost a year and lawyers were not allowed to access them until 1 March this year. However, now, a number of lawyers complained that Tangedeko received about Rs. K was demanding a lump sum payment.
