Government. The agency was asked to provide all logistical support
The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to carry forward the investigation into the deaths of two minor girls at Valayar in Palakkad.
Justice VG Arun also directed the state police chief to take immediate measures to hand over all the files, records and other material related to the cases with the CBI. The court directed the state government to provide all kinds of material to the CBI for further investigation without any investigation.
The court passed the directive while disposing of a petition filed by the mother of both girls, who died by suicide, seeking an inquiry into the deaths by the CBI. When the petition came up for hearing, senior public prosecutor Suman Chakraborty submitted that during the previous hearing all documents related to the cases had been submitted to the Center.
feasibility report
Additional Solicitor General p. Vijaykumar said that the Center had sought a feasibility report from the CBI and a decision on the CBI probe would be taken on receipt of the report.
The girls’ mother had complained in her petition that the government had given its consent for a CBI inquiry into the death of her elder daughter.
However, during the hearing of the petition, the government had submitted that the investigation into both the deaths would be handed over to the CBI.
While the 13-year-old daughter of the petitioner was found dead on January 13, 2017, her nine-year-old daughter committed suicide on March 4 at her home.
Special Court for POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses)) The cases acquitted all the accused on the grounds that the prosecution failed miserably to prove the charges against them.
Fresh test
However, the High Court set aside the acquittal and sent the case back for a new trial. The government later decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI following public outrage over the flaws in the police investigation.
