GVMC Election: 6% difference in vote share between YSRCP and TDP

In the just-concluded GVMC elections, the YSR Congress Party secured 58 out of a total of 98 wards and the TDP secured 30 wards. The difference in vote share between arch rivals is about 6%.

The total voters in the GVMC were 17,26,258, of which 10,25,758 exercised their franchise. After the separation of the invalid votes of 23,458, the total secured votes were 10,02,300.

Out of the total votes polled, YSRCP polled around 4.34 lakhs, thus achieving around 42% vote share. On the other hand the vote polled by the TDP was around 3.71 lakhs, giving it around 36% of the vote.

The Janasena Party garnered 77,865 votes, finishing third with 7.5% and its alliance partner BJP with a vote percentage of 3.6 with only 36,953 votes.

While NOTA’s share was 10,207, 160 odd independents received more than 33,000 votes and could also win four wards.

In some wards, the fight between YSRCP and TDP was close to the wire.

While the BJP-JSP together garnered around 1.17 lakh votes, the JSP was the best performer in all the 51 wards with a share of around 11.7% where they fielded their candidates. In the final rally, JSP can defeat 3 wards and BJP. The CPI contested from six wards and garnered around 4,000 votes, winning in ward number 72. CPI (M) fielded candidates in 19 wards and secured 78th ward. A total of 8,100 votes were polled.

The Congress contested in 67 wards, but in most wards the party candidates failed to cross the 100 vote mark.
