The beta 3 for Android 12 brings multiple improvements over Android 12 beta 2. The latest beta update also brings features like scrolling screenshots, on-device search and more.
The tech giant also released the Android 12 beta 3 for TV with Refresh Rate Switching Settings, 4K UI support and more.
Scrolling screenshots
This Android 12 feature is already available in many Android versions such as Oppo’s ColorOS and Samsung‘s One UI. With this feature in place, users will be able to capture and share scrolling content more easily. When users capture a screenshot of content that’s scrollable, they’ll now see a “Capture more” button to extend the screenshot to the full content and they can then adjust the crop.
On-device search
Google introduced a new AppSearch API, which is a new high-performance on-device search engine. With AppSearch, apps can index structured data and search over it with built-in full-text search capabilities. AppSearch will offer two settings — a local index for the app and a central index. The settings will integrate the app data in Android 12’s System UI and will then natively offer features like multi-language support, relevancy ranking and more.
Better, faster auto-rotate
With Android 12 beta 3, the Pixel smartphones will use the front camera for the auto-rotate feature. With the help of face detection, the front camera will analyse the angle and will rotate the screen accordingly. The enhanced auto-rotate feature lives within our recently announced Private Compute Core, so images are never stored or sent off the device.
Along with this, with Android 12 the company has also improved the speed of auto-rotation. The latency for the base auto-rotate feature has been reduced by 25%, and the benefits of the face detection enhancement build on top of those improvements.
Android 12 for Games
Android 12 beta 3 comes with new Game Mode APIs that enable developers to customise the performance of their game according to the profile set by users. These APIs will be tied to the upcoming game dashboard which provides an overlay experience with quick access to key utilities during gameplay. The game dashboard will be available on select devices later this year.
Privacy indicator APIs in WindowInsets
One of the key highlights of Android 12 is its privacy features. One such privacy feature is the new notification received when an app uses the device’s camera or microphone. The company said that the developers may have a problem with this feature if these notifications will cover useful content in their app. In order to solve this issue, Google has introduced a Privacy indicator API in WindowInsets. This will enable the developers to customise the relative placement of the notification on the screen.
Presently, Android 12 Beta 2 is available for Google Pixel smartphones. Users can download the update manually from the Android developer website. The company has already announced that Beta 3 will be released in July followed by Beta 4 in August.
