Google Payments, a digital payment service by technology giant Google, announced new features for improved user privacy on Thursday, including deleting transaction records as well as the option to opt-out of receiving personalized offers and rewards. “Starting next week, your Google Pay app settings will give you more control over how your Google Pay activity is used to personalize features within the app. All users will be asked to choose whether they want to turn the control on or off as soon as they upgrade to the next version of the Google Pay app, ”Ambarish Kenge, Vice President – Product, Google Pay, said in a blog post.
Mr Kenge said that turning on ‘Personalization within Google Pay’ would provide a more relevant experience for users, such as receiving more relevant offers and rewards based on their activity within the app, including your transaction history. However, even after this setting is turned off, Google Pay will continue to work only – without personalization. “Users who update Google Pay on Android and iOS can access these controls to modify their personalization experience on Google Pay based on their choice,” he said.
He added that Google Pay users will also be able to manage how their personal transactions and activity are used within the app for personalization. “You can view and delete personal transaction and activity records that you don’t want to use to personalize your Google Pay experience,” he said.
Noting that security and privacy are paramount for payment products and services and that people want more control and transparency in the way they use their transaction data, Mr. Kenge said users’ personal information is never sold to anyone And their transaction history is not shared with anyone other Google products to target ads.
