Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said he was expecting a decision on the Centre’s agricultural sector laws with an expectation that the spirit of the Dandi march and the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi would “shake the conscience” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr. Gehlot flagged off a symbolic Dandi March from the Khadi Sansthan Sangh campus in Jaipur, marking the 91st anniversary of Gandhiji’s historic Salt March in 1930 as an act of non-violent civil disobedience. Shri Gehlot called upon the youth to take inspiration from the march and fight injustice.
Mr. Gehlot said that ever since Modi had flagged off a march from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, he hoped that Gandhiji’s message would guide him and he would decide on agricultural laws.
“The government has taken a stubborn attitude towards the farmers who played an important role in the freedom struggle,” he said.
The chief minister hoped that the BJP, which tried to present a unilateral view of history, would not reduce the contribution of freedom fighters associated with the Congress during the government’s Amrit Mahotsav.
“It is difficult to find democracy in the country today. I would expect Modi to follow the right path in consultation [RSS chief] Mohan Bhagwat, “said the chief minister.
Mr. Gehlot accompanied his cabinet colleagues, legislators, public representatives and government officials to Gandhi Circle, located near the University of Rajasthan. He said that a number of programs would be organized in the state in 2022 to commemorate the 75th year of independence.
