The Sampagehalli police analyzed CCTV footage from cameras spread over 400 km and five toll plazas from KR Puram to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, tracking a gang member who targeted traders and jewelers. Police said that they belong to Andhra Pradesh.
After scanning the footage for hours, they identified and arrested 27-year-old Chela Prabhu Das. “We were locating the motorcycle that CK Baba, DCP (South East), who was leading the team.”
According to the police, Prabhu Das is involved in a seven-member gang headed by habitual criminal Prateesh, who is currently absconding. Police said, “The gang will scour jewelery shops and sub-registrar offices for possible targets, chase them and loot their valuables.” ”
Using this modus operandi, the accused allegedly stole 1,200 grams of jewelery from a wholesale jeweler. A police officer said, “The victim Shivram was carrying valuables in the boot space of his scooter to sell to local jewelers on February 19. He did not realize that Prabhu Das and other gang members were following him Were, ”said a police officer. They allegedly robbed him when he parked his scooter to relieve himself.
With the arrest of Prabhu Das, the police have recovered 440 grams of gold jewelery and three motorcycles. Efforts are on to track down other gang members. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant on Saturday lauded the efforts of the police team and announced the cash reward.
