Fossil has teased the launch of its next-generation smartwatch. As reported by users on Reddit, Fossil is sending out emails teasing the launch of Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch. “Way more, way faster…Gen 6 is coming” says the teaser mail. “Fossil’s newest, most advanced smartwatch is coming soon. Sign up to be the first to purchase,” it further adds.
This comes when Samsung is expected to announce its Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch on August 11. The company has announced a Galaxy Unpacked event where it will unveil the latest-generation foldable phones along with the Fan Edition of Galaxy S21.
With the teaser, Fossil is clearly making an attempt to preempt potential Galaxy Watch 4 buyers from immediately purchasing it. This could possibly heat up competition between the two.
Fossil in July this year said that “it’s bringing the best possible Wear OS smartwatch to the market this year.” It is expected that the Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch may come with major hardware upgrades. Rumours say that the smartwatch may be powered by Snapdragon Wear 4100 and run WearOS 3.
Samsung announces its smartwatch processor
Meanwhile, Samsung has announced the processor that will power its Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch. Dubbed Exynos W920, the chipset comes with support for the new unified wearable platform that has been co-developed by Samsung and Google.
The processor packs two Arm Cortex A55 cores and an Arm Mali G68 GPU. Samsung claims that the chipset can deliver 20% improved CPU performance and 10-times better graphics performance than its predecessor. It also features a dedicated low-power display processor, the Cortex-M55, to reduce display power consumption under Always-On-Display mode.
