Former England captain Michael Vaughan questioned the injury of fast bowler Jofra Archer on Saturday and asked why he did not play in the Tests and T20 series against India when he had a cut on his arm in January. Archer played two Tests in February and all five matches of the T20 series in March before going back home. Taking to Twitter, Vaughn wrote, “Cut off his hand ??? Why didn’t his hands get set for the Tests and T20s he played if it happened in Jana ??????”

His remarks came after a confirmation by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Saturday that Archer would be undergoing a procedure in his right hand following a scan and an advisory review after returning to the UK on Tuesday.

Archer has also received another injection of a right elbow injury which disqualified him for the current ODI series versus India and the first half of the Indian Premier League.

The procedure on Joffra’s hand will take place on Monday so that he can recover during the planned pause following the injection of his elbow.

He said, “An expert opinion was sought on further investigation and his return to the UK, and it has been decided in conjunction with the ECB Medical Panel that surgery is the best option to manage his injury over the long term.” “
