In a tragic incident, five teenagers drowned at the Kamarajar dam near Athur here on Sunday.
Police said that six teenagers from Bharatapuram Saurashtra Colony had gone for a bath here at around 11 am
Even when they were all swimming, suddenly two of them went missing. When the three other boys went to the depths in search of them, they were drowned as well. After the alarm sounded, fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot.
After about 30 minutes, the team retrieved five bodies, which were sent to the government hospital for postmortem.
The Sembatti police have registered a case. The names of the deceased were Nagaraj (19), Loganathan (18), Karthik Prabhakar (19), Bharath (16) and Selva Bharani (19).
