Whether you’ve got your hands full prepping the Turkey for lunch, or you just want to do as little as possible while you munch through another box of chocolates, Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant will be able to lend you a helping hand on Christmas Day. The popular Fire TV has got some handy new voice commands that will help you choose a movie to put on for the family and give you at least one less thing to do on Christmas Day. And, to make things a bit more fun, these new Alexa commands will test your movie knowledge as you’ll need to use famous quotes to play iconic Xmas films.
For instance, if you want to start watching the much-loved Christmas cartoon The Snowman you’ll just need to say “Alexa, we’re walking in the air”.
While if you want to see Macaulay Culkin fight off some burglars in Home Alone, just simply say “Alexa, keep the change ya filthy animal”.
If you’re looking to specifically play children’s films, then here are the commands you’ll need to say to Alexa…
• Arthur Christmas: “Alexa, Operation Santa Claus is coming to town!”
• The Polar Express: “Alexa, there’s no greater gift than friendship”
• The Snowman: “Alexa, we’re walking in the air”
• How The Grinch Stole Christmas: “Alexa, what’s that stench, it’s fantastic!”
• Saving Santa: “Alexa, let’s save Santa”
While for older children and adults, you can get Alexa to play other classic Christmas movies with these phrases….
• Elf: “Alexa, take me to the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest”
• Home Alone: “Alexa, keep the change ya filthy animal”
• The Holiday: “Alexa, I’m Mr Napkin Head!”
• A Street Cat Named Bob: “Alexa, this animal is my co-pilot”
All of the films mentioned are available to stream on Prime Video. But only Saving Santa and The Holiday will be available to stream for free with an Amazon Prime membership.
Home Alone, Elf, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Snowman, The Polar Express and Arthur Christmas you’ll have to pay to rent or buy.
While A Street Cat Named Bob is available to stream for free as it’s included in the library of the ad-supported IMDb TV channel.
These special commands aren’t the only festive update that headed to Amazon Alexa smart speakers this month.
For a limited-time only, a very special person has got into the Amazon recording studio to record a new voice for Alexa – Saint Nick himself!
To hear Santa’s voice come out of your Echo speaker instead of Alexa, simply say “Alexa, enable ‘Hey Santa’”.
Once this is enabled you’ll also have to say “Hey Santa” instead of the usual “Alexa” wake word.
