Halloween 2021 is just around the corner, and if you’re in the mood to watch something spooky to celebrate …there are plenty of options on Prime Video. And in the run-up to All Hallows Eve, Amazon has rolled out a new update for its Fire TV and Fire TV Stick 4K Max devices that lets you ask Alexa to play your favourite horror in an ingenious new way.
The new Alexa update, which is available on your device right now, prompts the voice assistant to play a selection of horror films by quoting lines from it. For instance, if you want to see M Night Shyamalan’s classic 90s horror The Sixth Sense you just need to quote the film’s most famous line. By saying “Alexa, I see dead people” you’ll be able to see the iconic, Box Office smash hit starring Bruce Willis.
Alternatively, saying “Alexa, something has found us” will hit play on the JJ Abrams produced Cloverfield, which is directed by Matt Reeves – who is making the highly anticipated new Batman film.
If you’re looking to watch Cloverfield, just make sure you don’t get motion sick too easily, as it’s shaky-cam central. You can also get Alexa to play the brilliant 2001 indie hit Donnie Darko, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, by saying: “Alexa, when will the world end?”
If you’re after something more family friendly this Halloween then you can also get Alexa to play Casper or The Addams Family by saying a few fun commands.
Saying “Alexa, show me the friendly ghost”, will bring up Casper, while saying “Alexa, you bewitched me!” will play The Addams Family.
You can find a full list of all the quotes and commands you can say that will play these films on your Amazon Fire TV device.
Just be warned that some of these films are included as part of an Amazon Prime subscription or are free to watch with ads, while others aren’t…
