Farmers protest | Make Kisan movement a part of your daily life: Naresh Tikait

BKU chief appealed to more people like Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik to support farmers

Addressing a Kisan Panchayat of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) at the Ghazipur protest site on Tuesday, BKU president Naresh Tikait once again said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the government are not trustworthy. “We are in for a long haul. I want you to make [farmers’] Mr. Tikait said, a part of your daily life.

He appealed that more people like the Governor of Meghalaya, Satya Pal Malik, should come in support of the peasant movement. We have no objection if he played the role of an intermediary between the farmers and the government. He belongs to a farming family and understands farming and the region, ”said Mr. Tikait.

At an event in Baghpat last week, Mr. Malik said that farmers should not go empty-handed from the borders of Delhi.

The monthly meeting of BKU is held in Sisauli village of Muzaffarnagar, but Mr. Tikait said that as many farmers are on the border, the organization felt that the meeting should be held on the Ghazipur border. This is the second time such a meeting has taken place on the Delhi-UP border. The first was in December 2020.

On the plan to build a concrete structure on the road, Mr. Tikait said, “We are not here to occupy the road, but we have to make sure that the local people do not suffer any inconvenience, the farmers survive the heat.”

RLD Panchayat

Meanwhile, continuing with their collective outreach program against controversial agricultural laws, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) vice-president Jayant Chaudhary said on Tuesday that the farmer would bring this government down. “If the government feels that the farmer is not understanding, then it is wrong …kisan sarkar ki eent-se-eent baja dega hai,” They said.

While addressing a Kisan Panchayat in Baheri area of Bareilly, Mr. Chaudhary said that there was a lot of difference between what this government said and what it actually did, and the farmers understood its true character. “The impact of this will be reflected in the upcoming elections,” he said.

Mr. Chaudhary reiterated that he was not against private investment in agriculture but if the government stops playing the role of an intermediary between the two, farmers cannot be protected from corporate greed.

He alleged that during the lockout, the government had put rules in place which helped the two private players to accumulate wealth while the common man continued to lose his job.
