Retail inflation for farm laborers and rural laborers rose 2.67% and 2.76% in February to 2.17% and 2.35% in January 2021, respectively.
In February 2021, inflation based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL food indices are 1.55% and 1.85% respectively, a Labor Ministry statement said.
The All India Consumer Price Index number for agricultural laborers and rural laborers declined by 1 point to 1037 and 1044 points for the month of February 2021 compared to January 20, respectively.
In February 2020, CPI-AL was at 1010 and CPI-RL was at 1016.
The major contribution for the decline in the general index of agricultural laborers and rural laborers came with (-) 2.94 points and (-) 2.54 points respectively, mainly due to the fall in prices of wheat ata, jaggery, potato, cauliflower etc., statement . said.
The decline / increase in the index varies from state to state. In the case of agricultural laborers, it recorded a decrease of 1 to 20 points in 10 states and an increase of 1 to 11 points in 8 states while the index of 2 states remained steady.
Tamil Nadu State with 1252 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh State with 818 points topped the table.
In the case of rural laborers, it recorded a decrease of 1 to 19 points in 10 states and an increase of 1 to 11 points in 9 states while the Odisha state index remained steady.
Tamil Nadu state index with 1237 points topped the table while Bihar state with 842 points is at the bottom.
Among states, the maximum reduction in consumer price index numbers for agricultural laborers and rural laborers was experienced by the state of West Bengal (20 points and – 19 points, respectively), mainly wheat, chillies, green vegetables, and fruit and firewood. etc
In contrast, the state of Kerala (+11 points each) experienced the maximum increase in the consumer price index number for agricultural laborers and rural laborers mainly due to increase in prices of rice, fresh fish, onion and vegetables and fruits etc. .
Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said, “The decrease in the index is mainly due to the fall in the prices of wheat flour and vegetables, which puts less burden on the pockets of millions of laborers working in rural areas.”
