Fans of the Dodgers will not let the Red Sox forget the Mookie Bates trade, the epic billboard troll outside Fenway Park

This is definitely a billboard-hit troll job.

The sweet music of the Dodgers ‘World Series win is still ringing in his fans’ ears, and he certainly has no player to thank for more than Mookie Bates. Bates was notoriously relegated last year in Los Angeles to a blockbuster deal in the West, which Boston is still crying over and over again.

So leave it for the Dodgers fans to continue to pour salt into the wounds of Red Sox fans – this time, through billboards.

The billboard, posted by the Dodgers fan with the Billboard fan group Patton 294, sits near Fenway Park and will easily overtake the Citgo sign as the most famous billboard in the Boston area.

Bates had another MVP-caliber season in the Shorts 2020 campaign, with 3.0 fWAR in just 55 games last year. He finished second behind Freddie Freeman of the Braves in MVP.

The Bates deal was widely (and rightly) banned by fans and analysts alike; The Red Sox in turn got outfielder Alex Verdugo and prospects Jeter Downs and Connor Wong. Pitcher David Price was also sent from the Red Sox to LA, but Price dropped out of the 2020 season.

The Bates signed a massive 12-year, $ 365 million contract contract with the Dodgers last year, so LA fans will have plenty of opportunities to remind Sox fans of the trade in the coming years.
