The Collegium Education Department has decided to file a complaint after a bogus circular that the state government was announcing the holidays on social media and other platforms.
The circular, which was the cause of much confusion among the management of the college, stated that the state government had decided to declare the holidays by March 15-30, 2021, which included the proliferation of COVID-19. The principals of the college were replete with calls from parents and students seeking clarification.
Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said that the cyber crime police has been instructed to immediately locate the culprits.
“This is fake news. I have directed the authorities to file criminal cases against such persons.
“Some people have shared a fake circular on the social media handle, which leads to the perception that the government has declared holidays due to the increasing COVID-19 cases. He is a liar. The fake circular has caused panic and confusion among parents and students. We will ask the cyber crime police to trace the origin of this fake circular and take action against those responsible. This will send the message that no one should play with the future of our children.
DCE Commissioner Pradeep P. Said that the fake circular was causing confusion among both students and teachers.
“We will file a police complaint tomorrow,” Mr. Pradeep said.
Officials said an old circular announcing leave for colleges was replaced with dates.
