Face Recognition Facility Scheme

Face Recognition Facility Scheme

NEC Corporation India has contracted for Varanasi, Vijayawada, Pune and Kolkata airports.

NEC Corporation India, a part of NEC Corporation, a Tokyo-based IT and electronics company, has contracted with the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which will deploy facial recognition-based passenger recognition technology at four airports in the country, Varanasi. Vijayawada, Pune and Kolkata.

Pradeep Kushwaha, head of public safety at NEC Corporation India, told Hindu, “We have won these projects from the Airports Authority of India. The Varanasi airport will be ready for passenger tests of the technology this month, while work has begun on other airports and they are expected to be ready for passenger tests in three months. In Varanasi, trials are already underway with airport staff. “

Facial recognition systems use computer algorithms to capture specific details of an individual’s face and match it to a similar pre-stored image in the database. When used in airports, the technology can provide contactless and quick boarding, bag drop, security checks, and lounge access. This paperless and touch-less airport boarding system identifies a passenger with the right to arrive after arrival, security checks and departures according to the NEC.

“Our focus is on creating a technology that identifies accurate (99.99%) people and provides services to them. We are working with some banks to create better print-backed money transfer systems for bank employees. ‘

According to Mr. Kushwaha, facial recognition technology has matured over the years and it can now apply for services, including lounge access, immigration, law enforcement, online education and exams, hotel booking and cab services or vendors. Payments included.

It may be recalled that NEC conducted a POC (proof of concept) at Hyderabad Airport and similar POCs are currently operating at Delhi and Kochi airports.

In 2019, Star Alliance selected NEC Corporation to establish a facial recognition-based recognition system for all its member airlines. Currently, Lufthansa Airlines and Swiss International Airlines are using the technology as a special facility for their frequent passengers from Munich and Frankfurt airports.
