The Mighty Ducks are back.
On March 26, Disney launched a reboot of the old hockey franchise with “The Mighty Duck: Game Changers” on its streaming Disney +.
Based on a 90s film that was based on a generation of hockey fans, the latest version focuses on Evan, a hockey-crazed kid in Minnesota who is cut off from Mighty Duck – now a top-tier and Championship winner Maeve teams up – and builds her own team with the help of her mother (played by Lauren Graham).
Since this is basically a WhatsApp-the-original-duck-movie type of show, Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) is back and is expected to appear later in the series by most of the original cast. But if you want to watch the entire season in one flick, Disney is releasing an episode only once – every Friday through April 30.
While the 2021 version is primarily geared towards a new generation of Duck fans, the reboot has already dropped a number of Easter eggs for the older generation in the first episode.
Here are some we can pick up.
WARNING: SPOILER DOWN
Seven Easter Eggs in “The Mighty Duck: Game Changers”
1. Quaking
The first throwback node occurs within the first two minutes of the episode.
In the first exercise of the year, two children are hosting a powerful Duck podcast. They reveal that the modern-day version is a powerhouse and has won a record 10 state championships.
“A little different from the ducks of the 90s, they really pinched,” Mary Jo says with a laugh.
Nick, his podcast co-host, responded: “Adorable.”
Well, yes kids, he pinched in the original film, and yes kids, it was cute because the ducks stick together.
2. Hendrix Pavilion
2021 Duck Skate at Hendrix Hockey Pavilion, which may be the only tribute to “D2: The Mighty Ducks”. In the film’s sequel, Hendrix Jr. sponsors Team USA at the Goodwill Games and if you’ve never seen the film, the Ducks originally become Team USA.
3. Cake Eater
According to the Urban Dictionary, a cake eater is a Minnesota-based term for people “so rich that they can eat and even eat their cake.” Jessie throws the word, usually around Adam Banks, sometime around, but he also calls Gordon Bombay.
“Forget it, cake eaters,” Jesse Hall tells Bombay before going out with his brother Terry to the locker room after the coach tells him he is inducting Banks into the team. Jessie also calls him a cake eater who stops shipping to Bombay’s minors at the end of the film.
In “Game Changers”, Bombay now runs a rink and eats cake – a lot of it – but it’s a cake left over from children’s birthday parties. He is no longer a wealthy lawyer, but he can eat his cake.
4. Football Helmet
While this is certainly not the proper tool for playing hockey, Dave Karp is seen playing a football helmet before becoming sponsored by District 5 and becoming a duck back in 1992.
In episode 1, Coach T (played by DeLeon Playfair) asks, as the kids are skating on ice: “Is that a football helmet?”
And yes, one of the children is playing a helmet.

5. Minnesota Sweatshirt
It’s pretty obvious that Evan is the new Charlie, so when he was dressed as the District 5 head coach for Bombay’s first game, he was a sweatshirt, when he was still on the team nominated for the first practice. .
6. Flying V
“Flying V” Evan screams as he watches his new team – The Done Bits – out on the ice.
You may remember, Flying V was the go-to for the day when a goal was needed.
7. “I hate hockey and I don’t like kids”
This may be the last Easter egg in the first episode and it is fantastic.
Bombay tells Alex when he asks him to coach the new team: “I hate hockey and I don’t like kids.”
In the original film, he uses the exact same line for the team when he first meets them after dragging his stretch limo over a frozen pond.
