On March 12, a flying squad led by Junior Engineer, NHAI, Marimuthu and SSI attached to Utiyapuram Police Station, Murugan, and the vehicle of Kadambapatti Raju, the minister and AIADMK Kovilpatti candidate, were examined near Uthupatti Junction. Mr. Marimuthu later filed a complaint. Nallattinaputhur station said that the minister prevented him from discharging his duties and threatened to move him. Police said a case was registered against the minister under sections 353 and 506 (1) of the IPC.
Subsequently, there were rumors that Sri Marimuthu Kovilpatti assembly constituency was removed from Kovindpatti.
However, the District Election Officer and Collector K. Senthil Raj said on Sunday that all officers posted for election duty will discharge their duties in an independent and impartial manner as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. “All officers on election duty will continue in one place,” he said.
