Election Commission FIR on ‘fake news’ on EVM hacking

The Election Commission said on Thursday that an FIR was filed on “fake news” about hacking of electronic voting machines (EVMs) on social media.

“It has come to the notice of the Election Commission of India that an old fake news about EVM hacking is being circulated on social media platforms / Internet,” the Election Commission said in a statement.

It added that the December 21, 2017 news article stated that “maliciously” former Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishnamurthy had said that “a particular party won the assembly election by hacking EVMs”.

The Election Commission said, “This misinformation was misconstrued by the former CEC itself, soon after which the matter came to light in 2018. The news has been re-circulated on social media by some mischievous elements.” ”

It said that Shri Krishnamurthy issued a statement on Wednesday, refuting the news again.

The Election Commission said that an FIR under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code was filed by the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi under Section 128 and 134 of Section 1951 of the Penalty and Penalty Act for defamation, relating to maintenance of confidentiality is. The Election Commission said that an inquiry has been initiated into the matter and strict action will be taken against the miscreants who have uploaded fake news to create a false perception about the election process.
