Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said on Sunday that neither the mandis in Haryana would be closed nor the procurement system at the minimum support price. He said that mandis were the backbone of the crop procurement system.
Mr. Chautala was addressing a gathering during the “Holi Milan” program at Nariala here.
In view of the ongoing peasant movement in many parts of the state and the boycott of ruling coalition leaders, the district administration had appointed six duty magistrates to maintain law and order during the program.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed that during the wheat season last year, every single grain was procured in the state. Earlier, farmers were credited to the payment account Arthia (Commission agents), but direct payments were made to 23% of the farmers in the wheat season and 67% of the farmers in the paddy season last year. This time 78% of the farmers have uploaded their account details.
He said that this time the payment will be deposited directly into the farmers’ accounts within 48 hours of submitting Form-J.
Purchase Center
Mr. Chautala said that some people were spreading rumors that the mandis would be closed, but the mandis were the backbone of the state government’s procurement process. He said that there were 450 procurement centers in Haryana and this number was increased to 1,800 in view of COVID-19 last year. In view of the convenience of the farmers, procurement centers were set up close to their homes.
He said that the state government is fully committed to provide all kinds of facilities to the farmers and if necessary, the crop can also be purchased directly from the farmers’ fields.
Talking about the development of roads in the state, Mr. Chautala said that under the Rural Roads Scheme, 2,000 2,000 crore was spent and roads connecting most of the mandis were constructed. He said that Kundli-Ghaziabad Palwal Expressway would prove to be a boon for the people of the area.
He said that large IT companies along with other industries will also come here.
He said that Jewar Airport will be connected to three flyovers from Faridabad and will prove to be a milestone in its development.
