Twenty-three-year-old Mohammad Lahiri goes paragliding every year.
“I have also gone trekking and mountain climbing. I want to celebrate life in every possible way after embracing death.
Mr. Lahiri went through a kidney transplant about 33 years ago and said that he kept doing everything with ease.
Speaking on the occasion of World Kidney Day organized by Sapiens Health Foundation, he said, “Now my next objective is to run a half marathon and climb the base camp of Mount Everest. I want to live to the age of 100 to show the world that this can be the lifespan of a person who has had a transplant. ”
Actor Madhu Balaji said how he donated one of his kidneys to his sister-in-law and said that they are both leading a healthy and normal life.
Nephrologist Rajan Ravichandran, who runs the Sapience Health Foundation, said it was important to listen to a patient before starting treatment. Both physical and mental well-being of the patient was important.
He recalled how the foundation was recovered two decades ago by a female patient who wanted to contribute in some way to relieve people suffering from kidney disease.
“So that was how we started this foundation,” he said.
A documentary where various patients narrated their experience was released on the occasion.
