DGP rank officer appears before CG-CID to investigate sexual harassment complaint

The case pertains to a female IPS officer who accused the DGP rank officer of sexual harassment.

A former Special Director General of Police (DGP), accused of sexual harassment of a female IPS officer, appeared before an investigating officer of the crime branch CID (CB-CID) for questioning in relation to the case lodged against her, sources said. said.

On February 27, the CB-CID filed sections 354A (sexual harassment), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against the former Special DGP, and the FIR under Sec. Registered. 4 of the Prohibition of Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act, 2002. Legal experts claimed that section 354A with 506 (1) in the FIR makes it a non-bailable offense. Superintendent of Police d. Kannan had also nominated the victim along with the DGP-ranking officer to stop the victim from filing a complaint.

The Government of Tamil Nadu constituted a six-member Visakha Committee under the leadership of Additional Chief Secretary Jayashree Raghunandan to investigate the complaint of women SPs. The committee will recommend another course of action as per the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women in Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The Madras High Court, which is monitoring the investigation, is restricting the media publication in the names of the main accused and the complainant.

On Friday, the Madras High Court expressed surprise that the former Special DGP (now on compulsory waiting) has not yet been suspended, to instill confidence in the criminal investigation as well as the internal investigation launched against him.
