Independent candidates supported by former Chirala MLA and YSRCP leader Amanichi Krishnamohan won 13 of the 33 wards, affecting the political calculations of the ruling party.

Balram Krishnamurthy’s handpicked YSRCP candidates, who were loyalists after winning on the TDP ticket in the 2019 assembly elections, were successful in only 19 wards, where all five presidents of YSRCP – B. Jason Babu, s. Lakshmi, J. Srinivasa Rao, m. Sambasiva Rao and Yu. Subbaiah won, making it difficult for the leadership to choose for the coveted position. TDP managed to handle only one ward.

The election in one ward did not lead to contested elections between TDP and YSRCP candidates in the 11th hour on the back of maneuvers by ruling and opposition leaders.
