DDC members protest after meeting LG

Jammu and Kashmir Appney Party, Kang. Blame bureaucrats for their changed situation

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha arrived on Wednesday to protest against the chairman and members of the District Development Council (DDC), as the Jammu and Kashmir Apnea Party and Congress called on bureaucrats to “downgrade” the position of these elected members charged up.

According to the opposing DDC members, LG has decided to call off their protests after offering to meet them later this week.

BJP leader and DDC chairperson Bharat Bush said in Jammu, “We have received the message of the Lieutenant Governor currently living out of the station that he is coming to the meeting on March 12 to meet our genuine demands.”

Elected DDC members and chairpersons alleged that their official protocol’s preference and salary slab was far below what was promised.

The opposing DDC members were from political parties across the spectrum including BJP, Congress, CPI (M) and People’s Conference.

Blamed bureaucracy

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Party and Congress accused bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir of “upgrading the status of elected members by fixing lower salary slabs and lower order in protocol rank”.

“This determination has exposed the mindset of establishing a bureaucracy, which never wanted democracy to thrive in Jammu and Kashmir for its ulterior motives. Disgraceful protocol powers and honorarium are envisaged by the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister for these elected representatives of the people, ”Mr. Bukhari said.

However, he appealed to political parties to “refrain from politicizing the issue, which is the creation of an official fiefdom”.

The Congress called the government’s order “a betrayal of the elected representatives”.

“The slogans and promises regarding empowering democratic institutions have once again exposed the mindset of the BJP government. Congress President GA Mir said that the government should stop curtailing the rights of DDC and other democratic institutions.
