Daniel Medvedev overtake Rafael Nadal is at second place in ATP rankings

Daniel Medvedev came second in the ATP rankings on Monday, beating Rafael Nadal. The 25-year-old Russian advanced to second place in the final of the Marseille tournament on Sunday, beating world number one player Novak Djokovic in the final of this year’s Australian Open. His 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4 victory over Pierre-Hughes Herbert made him the fifth player to occupy the number two position in 16 years since July 2005.

Apart from Djokovic and Nadal, only Roger Federer and Andy Murray have held the position in that time.

Djokovic broke Federer’s record for the number of weeks spent in the top position last week.
