CSK vs DC, Indian Premier League: Delhi Capital players to watch out

Delhi Capital returned to action after the final of the IPL 2020 in Dubai, where they lost to Mumbai Indians. A unit largely unchanged from last season, DC will miss regular captain Shreyas Iyer who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. In Iyer’s absence, Rishabh Pant has been handed the captaincy of the team and the 23-year-old captain’s first challenge will be against the MS Dhoni-led team, whose mentor Pandit learned his ways in international cricket from Pandit. DC has also included Steve Smith in their squad and is likely to bat in the top three if he is in the XI.

Rishabh Pant

Pant is so far in his career and has been strong since the New Year’s Test in Sydney against Australia earlier this year. His match-winning innings in the fourth innings of the Brisbane Test helped India get the series and then scored 78 and 77 in the last two ODIs against England in the fourth Test.

Pant has 2079 runs in 68.9 IPL matches at a strike rate of 151.97 and although he scored a simple run in IPL 2020, his current form suggests that he has left the disappointment of last season far behind.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin, too, was one of the stars of India’s 2020–21 international season. After playing a key role in saving the Sydney Test, Ashwin performed brilliantly with the ball and bat in the Test against England.

He was one of DC’s previous performances with 13 wickets from 15 matches, taking his total of 138 wickets in 154 matches.

As well as being able to use the handle for a long time, Ashwin can also contribute as a lower-order hitter, and with his IPL experience, he can be one of the key cogs in the DC XI.

Shimron Hetmeyer

Along with Pant, Hetimer is another power-hitter who can score one off the ball. He scored 185 runs in 12 matches last season at a strike rate of 148 and with the return of the IPL to India on batting-friendly pitches, Hetmeyer could be doubly dangerous.

In all, Hetmyer has 1585 runs from 80 T20s at a strike rate of 130.45, including one century and eight half-centuries.
