Chennai Super Kings started their IPL 2021 season against the runners-up team from Delhi Capital last season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK finished sixth in the IPL 2020 and missed a playoff berth for the first time in their history. However, with the return of Suresh Raina, who missed the previous season due to personal reasons, his hopes have been dashed. The new additions of Krishnappa Gowtham and Moin Ali will also help. Under the leadership of the charismatic MS Dhoni, CSK will be aiming for a change of fortunes and a playoff berth and eventually a fourth IPL title.
CSK players out for clash here
Suresh Raina
Raina returned to his favorite IPL team after missing the league last season due to personal reasons after the league was held in the UAE. He has brought with him valuable experience of 5368 runs in 193 matches of IPL.
Raina has been a part of many IPL winning CSK teams and is well versed in navigating through all types of match situations.
At number 3, Raina can play the role of the right anchor in the CSK line-up and allow the likes of Gautam, Moin and Sam Curran to play their shots.
Ravindra Jadeja
CSK’s star all-rounder also returns after a long injury. Jadeja has been out since his injury during India’s tour of Australia for 2020-21. However, Jadeja made his rehab debut leading the IPL and he is set to take his place in the CSK line-up.
He was one of the best performers for the team last season, scoring 232 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 171.85, including a half-century.
He was not too impressed with the ball, however, he took just six wickets – an aspect on which he would like to improve.
Sam karran
Curran has been a superstar for CSK ever since he was included in the team. 281 runs in 23 matches, and 186 of these last season, with a strike rate of 143.36, Karna has been an important contingent in the CSK lower middle-order.
Promoted
His ability to swing the new ball and bowl well at death makes him a superb all-rounder, as is his record of 23 wickets from many matches.
A big hitter from Surrey can dust off the easy-to-track track at Wankhede for CSK and the team will be hoping to hit a few sixes off their bat at the end of the innings.
