Chittoor district is witnessing an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases during the last month, with a daily average of 40. After more than 50 teachers and students at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), Ved Sashala tested positive for the virus. One teacher said that in the last week, parents feared about the incidence of the virus in the area, preventing them from sending their children to schools.
A headmaster of a government school in Ramasamudram mandal said that the cases of COVID-19 among students and teachers in western mandals were very disturbing when the task of finishing syllabus and preparing students for examinations was almost complete went.
He said, “We have faced almost a Herician task, keeping in mind the physical distance apart from the students wearing face masks and using sanitizers.” The moment we feel some relief, the virus is disturbing us once again. Our concern is that many students keep coming to schools without masks. Furthermore, we are not sure whether students wearing masks in schools are following the precautions after leaving the campus. “
District Education Officer Narasimha Reddy said that although COVID-19 cases have been reported in some schools, “we are very cautious about the epidemic.” He said that the processes related to the preparation of syllabus and examinations are going on at a fast pace. The DEO said that the revenue, medical and health department staff are fully prepared to deal with the virus in schools.
