The World Health Organization (WHO) has denied any link between astraZeneca vaccines against coronovirus disease (COVID-19) and reported blood clots.
According to news agency AFP, WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan said, “We do not want people to panic and we recommend for some time that the country continue vaccination with AstraZeneca.”

Post-vaccine blood clots are a form of rare cerebral thrombosis: EMA
Scientists at the Germany-based Paul-Erlich-Institute say that blood clots seen in some of those who have been vaccinated are “a very rare form of very rare cerebral vein thrombosis”. This corresponds to a decrease in platelets and bleeding after vaccination with the AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine. The institute’s recommendations were the reason for the vaccination issued by Germany until a full review by the European Medicine Agency (EMA).
Blood clots observed post vaccination, however, are lower than the background number of such thrombosis events even without vaccination. State active case rises sharply
Maharashtra on Tuesday made another record single-day jump of 17,864 new COVID-19 cases as its active cases rose sharply to 1,38,813. The state’s recovery rate in the last 24 hours was 91.77%. To2 deaths pushed the fatal toll to 52,949.
While the total case count has reached 23,47,328, the cumulative recovery is 21,54,253.
Tamil Nadu
Collectors publicly spoke of imposing fines on those who do not wear masks.
In view of the increasing number of new COVID-19 infections in Tamil Nadu, Chief Secretary Rajiv Ranjan on Tuesday directed district collectors to strictly enforce the guidelines and impose fines on those who do not have facemasks while in public places.
During a meeting to review the COVID-19 scenario across the state, Mr. Ranjan directed the collectors to strictly enforce the standard operating procedures issued by the government under the Public Health Act and impose penalties on the violators. Respected local bodies, health, police and revenue department officials have to ensure compliance.

Modern says it has started vaccine testing on children
US manufacturer Modern said on Tuesday that it has started the COVID-19 vaccine trial for children under 6 months to 12 years old, with plans to recruit about 6,750 participants.
“We are pleased to begin this phase 2/3 study of mRNA-1273 in healthy children in the US and Canada,” said CEO Stephen Banksel in a statement.
Karnataka
Average 4.5 contacts per patient in the last week
With the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the COVID-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) recommends that for every patient, 20 contacts are required to be detected in districts where positivity rates above 1% is.
However, according to data provided by the Karnataka State COVID-19 War Room, not a single contact has been identified in 45.3% of the cases recorded in the previous week.

After a second COVID-19 cluster was detected in Telangana, horrific memories from last year started playing in the minds of state health officials.
