Amidst the rise in coronovirus cases in Punjab, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has ordered a massive ban in the state from Saturday, including the closure of all educational institutions by the end of the month and restrictions on the capabilities of cinema and malls.
The Chief Minister on Friday appealed to the people to keep social activity in their homes for at least the next two weeks to break the broadcast series. He said that no more than 10 visitors should be entertained in the houses.
“All educational institutions, except medical and nursing colleges, will remain closed till March 31,” an official statement said.
There will be a 50% capacity restriction in the cinema hall and no more than 100 persons will be in a mall at any given time.

Industry and essential services will be allowed to function, but prohibiting these, all restrictions will be strictly enforced, the Chief Minister instructed. Also, from next week onwards, every Saturday across the state from 11 am to 12 noon will be celebrated in memory of those who lost their lives with no vehicles to ply at this time.
The situation will be reviewed after two weeks, the chief minister said, chairing the COVID task force meeting with top officials. According to the Medical Bulletin, as of Thursday, Punjab’s infection was 2,05,418, while the total fatalities were 6,204.
